Mouse Moxibustion

Mouse moxibustion is an experimental adaptation of moxibustion in which controlled heat from burning moxa, or dried mugwort, is applied near defined points on a mouse’s body to investigate biological and behavioral responses. The thermal stimulus activates local sensory pathways and can influence physiological signaling, while carefully standardized distance, duration, temperature, and handling help reduce stress-related confounding effects. In behavioral research, mouse moxibustion models are used to examine changes in pain-related behaviors, stress responses, learning, and other measurable outcomes, providing a framework for studying how traditional thermal stimulation may affect nervous-system function and for evaluating its reproducibility in preclinical studies.
