Open Field Chambers

Open field chambers are behavioral testing arenas used to measure locomotion, exploration, and anxiety-related responses in animals, especially rodents. The apparatus typically consists of a defined enclosure in which automated tracking or direct observation records movement patterns, including distance traveled, time spent moving, rearing, and preference for the center or perimeter; increased wall-hugging, known as thigmotaxis, can indicate avoidance of exposed areas. Researchers use open field chambers to assess spontaneous activity, habituation, motor effects of drugs, and behavioral changes associated with stress, neurological disorders, or genetic manipulation. Standardized lighting, arena dimensions, and testing duration improve reproducibility across experiments.

Chambers of the Heart

2025

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...
