Scenario Manipulation

Scenario manipulation is the deliberate alteration of a situation or environmental context to examine how changes influence behavior. In behavioral research, investigators vary specific factors such as social cues, available choices, rules, or incentives while keeping other conditions as consistent as possible, then measure differences in responses. This approach helps distinguish causal influences from simple correlations and can reveal how people or animals make decisions, adapt to constraints, and respond to others. Scenario manipulation supports experiments in psychology, behavioral economics, education, and organizational research, while also informing the design of interventions, policies, and environments that encourage desired behaviors.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment as a Useful Adjunctive Tool for Pneumonia

Cited by 50 •

2014

Pneumonia is one of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S. Osteopathic manipulative techniques (OMT) may be utilized as an adjunctive therapy in the treatment of pneumonia to enhance biomechanical and immune function; and ultimately, to reduce hospital stay, duration of antibiotics, incidence of respiratory failure, and mortality. In this video-article, we will review randomized controlled studies on the use of OMT in pneumonia patients, as well as demonstrate specific hands-on...

Pharmaceutical Poisoning: Potential Scenarios

2026

Pharmaceutical poisoning can occur through various channels, impacting an estimated 2 million hospitalized patients in the U.S. annually with serious adverse drug responses. These scenarios encompass both therapeutic uses, such as drug toxicity, where even standard dosages can lead to severe central nervous system depression, and non-therapeutic exposures, including accidental ingestion by children, and environmental and occupational exposures.Unintentional poisonings often involve exploratory...

Manipulating an Independent Variable through Embodiment

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University In any experiment, the researcher attempts to manipulate participants in one group to have different thoughts, experiences, or feelings than the other groups in the study. Some manipulations are overt, while others can be quite subtle. Embodiment is a growing research area focused on the theory that subtle physical experiences can unconsciously influence a person’s thoughts. For example if a...
