Enzymatic Glucose Assay

An enzymatic glucose assay is a biochemical method for measuring glucose concentration in a sample through a selective enzyme-catalyzed reaction. In a common glucose oxidase-based format, glucose is converted to gluconolactone and hydrogen peroxide; peroxidase then uses the peroxide to oxidize a chromogenic substrate, producing a color whose absorbance reflects the glucose level. These assays support quantitative analysis of blood, culture media, and laboratory samples, helping researchers study carbohydrate metabolism, enzyme activity, and cellular energy use. Their sensitivity and specificity also make them useful for validating experimental models and monitoring glucose-dependent biological processes.

Samuel1, Kavaljit Chhabra11University of Rochester Medical Center. This video demonstrates a procedure for collecting mouse urine and assessing its glucose levels. To evaluate the glucose level, immerse a test strip coated with enzymes and a chromogenic dye into the sample, initiating a color change that indicates the glucose levels. For quantifying urine glucose levels, introduce a urine sample to a multiwell plate with escalating glucose concentrations,...

A Dye Release Assay to Quantify Enzymatic Activity of Antimicrobial Proteins

This video demonstrates the dye release assay for quantifying the enzymatic activity of antimicrobial proteins. The antimicrobial protein degrades the bacteria's dye-labeled cell wall and releases the dye molecules turning the solution blue. The absorbance of the solution correlates with the enzymatic activity of the antimicrobial protein.
