Computer-assisted Measurement

Computer-assisted measurement is the use of computers, sensors, imaging systems, and analytical software to collect, quantify, and interpret physical or biological properties with greater speed and consistency than manual measurement alone. The process typically converts sensor or image signals into digital data, applies calibration and processing algorithms to reduce noise and extract features, and reports measurements using defined units or statistical metrics. In bioengineering, these systems support analysis of motion, tissue structure, biomaterials, physiological signals, and device performance. By improving reproducibility and enabling high-throughput analysis, computer-assisted measurement strengthens experimental validation, quality control, and data-driven design.

The plasticity of nuclear architecture is controlled by dynamic epigenetic mechanisms including non-coding RNAs, DNA methylation, nucleosome repositioning as well as histone composition and modification. Here we describe a Formaldehyde-Assisted Isolation of Regulatory Elements (FAIRE) protocol which allows the determination of chromatin accessibility in a reproducible, inexpensive, and straightforward manner.
