Entrapment Efficiency

Entrapment efficiency is the proportion of an active compound successfully enclosed within a carrier relative to the total amount used during formulation. In bioengineering, it is commonly determined by separating unencapsulated material from loaded particles or vesicles and calculating the retained fraction, often expressed as a percentage. Preparation conditions such as carrier composition, drug properties, solvent selection, mixing, and particle formation can influence this measure. Entrapment efficiency helps researchers assess formulation performance, optimize drug-delivery systems, and predict how much therapeutic cargo a bioengineered carrier can transport. Together with loading capacity, release behavior, and stability, it supports the development of more consistent and effective delivery platforms.

This study describes classical hydration using the thin lipid film method for nanoliposome preparation followed by nanoparticle characterization. A 47 kDa-hydrophilic and globular protein, tarin, is successfully encapsulated as a strategy to improve stability, avoid fast clearance, and promote controlled release. The method can be adapted to hydrophobic molecules encapsulation.

Efficiency of Liquid-liquid Extraction

2023

Source: Kerry M. Dooley and Michael G. Benton, Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) is a separation technique used instead of distillation when either: (a) the relative volatilities of the compounds to be separated are very similar; (b) one or more of the mixture components are temperature sensitive even near ambient conditions; (c) the distillation would require a very low pressure or a very high distillate/feed...

Output Efficiency: Achieving Output Efficiency

2025

Output efficiency happens when resources are used in a way that balances what people want with how goods are produced. This means the marginal rate of substitution (MRS) matches the marginal rate of transformation (MRT). When this balance is reached, the economy makes the most of its resources without waste.Take the example of bread and milk. If consumers are happy to trade 2 loaves of bread for 1 liter of milk, the MRS is 2. But if producers only need to give up 1 loaf of bread to produce 1...
