Photo-responsive Nanoparticles

Photo-responsive nanoparticles are nanoscale materials that change their structure, chemical properties, or biological activity when exposed to light, enabling remote control of molecular and cellular processes. Their behavior arises when photoactive components absorb selected wavelengths and undergo processes such as photochemical reactions, isomerization, or light-triggered charge and energy transfer, which can alter particle assembly, surface properties, or cargo release. In bioengineering, these particles can provide spatially and temporally controlled delivery of drugs, genes, or imaging agents while reducing exposure to surrounding tissue. Their tunable optical responses support applications in targeted therapy, biosensing, tissue engineering, and the development of minimally invasive biomedical systems.

Begin with a slurry containing bacterial cells treated with silver nanoparticles suspended in an exopolysaccharide matrix.Add a phosphate buffer to the slurry to maintain a stable pH.Next, introduce a solution containing glucose and a soluble redox indicator, then incubate the mixture. The redox indicator acts as an electron acceptor.During incubation, glucose and the redox indicator enter metabolically active bacterial cells. The cells utilize glucose during respiration, generating...
