Fluorescent Protein Gene Insertion

Fluorescent protein gene insertion is a molecular biology technique that introduces a gene encoding a fluorescent protein into cells or organisms, enabling specific biological components to be visualized. Researchers typically place the fluorescent protein sequence under a suitable promoter in a DNA vector, deliver the construct into target cells, and rely on gene expression to produce a protein that emits light after excitation at a defined wavelength. The inserted gene can be linked to a protein of interest or expressed in selected cells, supporting microscopy-based studies of localization, movement, cell signaling, and gene activity. This approach provides a powerful way to monitor biological processes in living systems and evaluate experimental changes over time.

Proteins: From Genes to Degradation

Within a biological system, the DNA encodes the RNA, and the nucleotide sequence in the RNA further defines the amino acid sequence in the protein. This is referred to as “The Central Dogma of Molecular Biology” - a term coined by Francis Crick. Central dogma is a firm principle in biology that defines the flow of genetic information within any life form. The two fundamental steps in central dogma are - transcription and translation. Transcription is the synthesis of RNA molecules by RNA...
