Acrylic Glass

Acrylic glass is a transparent thermoplastic, commonly called polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), used as a lightweight alternative to conventional glass in scientific and biological settings. During manufacture, methyl methacrylate monomers polymerize into long, rigid chains that produce a clear material suitable for cutting, molding, and machining. In biology, acrylic glass supports observation chambers, aquaria, behavioral enclosures, culture-related equipment, and protective instrument housings, where visibility, durability, and design flexibility are important. Its optical clarity and ease of fabrication make it useful in teaching laboratories, microscopy-related setups, and research equipment, although surface cleanliness and material compatibility require attention.

The Looking Glass Self

2025

The concept of the looking-glass self describes how an individual's self-concept is shaped by their perception of how others see them. This psychological theory, first introduced by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley in 1902, posits that self-identity emerges in a social context and is influenced by the judgments—real or imagined—of others.Research suggests that individuals frequently overestimate how positively others perceive them. This is particularly evident in physical self-perception,...

2016

A novel methodology is presented to synthesize and program main-chain liquid-crystalline elastomers using commercially available starting monomers. A wide range of thermomechanical properties was tailored by adjusting the amount of crosslinker, while the actuation performance was dependent on the amount of applied strain during programming.
