Bait Prey Interaction

Bait-prey interaction is a biological encounter in which an organism, object, or food-like stimulus attracts potential prey and influences their behavior, making it useful for studying feeding and predation. Prey respond to sensory cues such as odor, color, movement, or chemical signals, then alter their movement or approach the bait; the resulting encounter depends on habitat, hunger, and risk perception. Researchers use bait to observe prey choice, quantify abundance, sample organisms, and examine predator-prey relationships under controlled or field conditions. Understanding these interactions supports ecological monitoring while helping distinguish attraction caused by natural resources from responses created by experimental sampling.

ELISA-Based Method to Analyze Interactions between Bait and Prey Proteins

2025

This video describes an ELISA-based technique that detects protein-protein interactions between two proteins by measuring the binding of the second protein to the immobilized first protein. The bound second protein is detected using specific antibodies labeled with an enzyme, such as horseradish peroxidase.

Predator-Prey Interactions

2026

Predators consume prey for energy. Predators that acquire prey and prey that avoid predation both increase their chances of survival and reproduction (i.e., fitness). Routine predator-prey interactions elicit mutual adaptations that improve predator offenses, such as claws, teeth, and speed, as well as prey defenses, including crypsis, aposematism, and mimicry. Thus, predator-prey interactions resemble an evolutionary arms race.Although predation is commonly associated with carnivory, for...

Phage display is a powerful technique to capture proteins or protein moieties that interact with an immobilized molecule of interest. Once a decision of the type of phage cDNA library to create and screen has been made, the protocol described here permits efficient affinity selection leading to identification of interactors.

2012

AVEXIS is a high throughput protein interaction assay developed to systematically screen for novel extracellular receptor-ligand pairs involved in cellular recognition processes. It is specifically designed to detect transient protein interactions that are difficult to identify using other high throughput approaches.
