Bladder Wall Layers

Bladder wall layers are the organized tissue strata that form the urinary bladder and coordinate protection, distension, and urine expulsion. The inner mucosa contains stretchable urothelium and lamina propria; beneath it, smooth muscle bundles form the detrusor, while outer connective tissue is covered by adventitia or serosa depending on location. During filling, urothelial cells flatten and maintain a permeability barrier; during voiding, parasympathetic signals stimulate coordinated detrusor contraction and outlet relaxation. Understanding these layers supports histological identification and interpretation of disorders such as cystitis, fibrosis, and bladder cancer, while informing studies of urinary function and tissue injury.

Layers of the Heart Wall

2025

The heart wall comprises three distinct layers: the epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. The outermost layer, the epicardium, is the visceral layer of the serous pericardium, featuring a thin, transparent mesothelial surface and an inner layer of areolar connective tissue with fat deposits that increase with age. The myocardium, the thickest layer, consists of cardiac muscle cells interconnected by intercalated discs and crisscrossing connective tissue fibers. These muscle fibers contract...

The established technique to inoculate primary invasive orthotopic bladder cancer xenografts requires laparotomy and mobilization of the bladder. This procedure inflicts significant morbidity on the mice, is technically challenging and time-consuming. We therefore developed a high-precision, percutaneous approach utilizing ultrasound guidance.
