C Elegans Wounding

C. elegans wounding is the experimental study of how the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans detects and repairs tissue injury, providing a tractable model for conserved biological responses to damage. Researchers create localized wounds using tools such as a laser or microinjection needle, then monitor rapid calcium signaling, actin remodeling, membrane repair, and activation of innate immune pathways. Because the worm is transparent, genetically characterized, and readily observed in vivo, wounding assays enable precise analysis of cellular communication, wound closure, host defense, and stress responses. These studies help identify genes and molecular mechanisms that may also influence tissue repair and immunity in other animals.
