Cell Scraper

A cell scraper is a laboratory tool used to detach adherent cells from the surface of a cell-culture vessel for collection, transfer, or analysis. Its flexible blade is pressed against the culture surface and moved across it, applying controlled mechanical force that disrupts cell attachment without relying on trypsin or other dissociation enzymes. This method supports the recovery of cultured cells for counting, protein or nucleic-acid extraction, microscopy, and downstream experiments. Cell scraping is particularly useful when researchers want to avoid enzyme exposure or collect cells and associated material from defined regions of a culture dish.

This protocol describes how to produce retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE) from pluripotent stem cells. The method uses a combination of growth factors and small molecules to direct the differentiation of stem cells into immature RPE in fourteen days and mature, functional RPE after three months.

Direct Reprogramming of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells into Neural Stem Cells

This video demonstrates the direct reprogramming of genetically modified hematopoietic progenitor cells into neuronal stem cells. Transcription factors expressed by hematopoietic progenitor cells trigger a cascade of molecular events facilitating their transformation. Further specific media is used to select and grow induced neuronal stem cells.
