Colonoscopic Guided Biopsy

Colonoscopic guided biopsy is a minimally invasive method for collecting tissue samples from the lining of the colon during a colonoscopy, allowing microscopic examination of abnormal or suspicious areas. A flexible colonoscope transmits images of the intestinal surface, while biopsy forceps passed through its working channel remove small specimens under direct visual guidance. Pathologists can analyze these samples for inflammation, infection, precancerous changes, or malignancy, linking tissue structure to disease processes in biology and medicine. The technique supports accurate diagnosis, disease classification, and treatment planning while reducing the need for more invasive tissue collection procedures.

Substernal thyroid lesions are common, and need to be differentiated from malignancy. Obtaining percutaneous fine needle biopsy is not possible due to its retrosternal location. This article proposes a protocol for biopsy of substernal thyroid lesions using Endobronchial Ultrasound-guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS-TBNA).
