Electrophysiological Assessment

Electrophysiological assessment is the measurement and analysis of electrical activity in cells, tissues, or organs, providing insight into how biological systems communicate and function. Sensors or electrodes detect voltage differences and ionic currents generated when charged particles move across cell membranes, while techniques such as patch-clamp recording, electroencephalography, and electromyography capture activity at different biological scales. These measurements help characterize membrane excitability, synaptic signaling, neural and muscle function, and cardiac activity. In biology and biomedical research, electrophysiological data support studies of normal physiology, disease mechanisms, drug effects, and the development of treatments or bioelectronic devices.
