Embryo Entrapment

Embryo entrapment is the controlled confinement of a developing embryo within a supportive matrix, chamber, or membrane to restrict movement while preserving viability. In laboratory settings, researchers typically immobilize embryos using materials such as low-melting-point agarose or specialized microfluidic structures, which hold the embryo in a defined position without blocking access to nutrients or oxygen. This approach supports live imaging, microinjection, developmental staging, and other manipulations in developmental biology. By stabilizing embryos during observation or treatment, embryo entrapment improves experimental consistency and enables researchers to link cellular behavior with changes in morphology, movement, and development over time.
