Jejunum Organoids

Jejunum organoids are three-dimensional, laboratory-grown models that reproduce key structural and functional features of the jejunum, the middle segment of the small intestine. Researchers typically generate them from intestinal stem cells embedded in an extracellular matrix and supplied with growth factors that support self-renewal, differentiation, and formation of an epithelial lumen containing specialized cell types. These organoids provide a controlled system for studying intestinal development, nutrient absorption, epithelial barrier function, host-microbe interactions, and disease mechanisms. They also support drug screening and personalized research, while reducing reliance on animal models and enabling experiments with patient-derived tissue.

2025

This video illustrates an immunofluorescence-based method for visualizing intestinal tuft cells in free-floating mouse jejunum cryosections. Within the intestinal villi, the co-localization of green fluorescence at the luminal tip with an extended red rootlet mass indicates the presence of tuft cells.
