Focal Macro Patch Electrode

A focal macro patch electrode is an electrophysiological tool that records electrical currents from a relatively large, defined region of cell membrane, providing localized measurements of membrane and synaptic activity. The electrode forms a tight seal with the membrane, and voltage-clamp recordings capture the combined current flowing through ion channels or receptors within the patch while limiting signals from neighboring regions. In biology, this approach is particularly useful for studying neuromuscular junctions and other synapses, where it can quantify transmitter-evoked currents, assess receptor function, and reveal changes in synaptic transmission caused by development, disease, or experimental treatments.

Patch Clamp Electrophysiology

2023

Neuron cell membranes are populated with ion channels that control the movement of charge into and out of the cell, thereby regulating neuron firing. One extremely useful technique for investigating the biophysical properties of these channels is called patch clamp recording. In this method, neuroscientists place a polished glass micropipette against a cell and apply suction to form a high resistance seal. This process isolates a small “patch” of membrane that contains one or more ion channels.

Electroencephalography Recording in a Rat Model of Focal Epilepsy

This video demonstrates a method for high-resolution EEG recording in a rat model of focal epilepsy. It outlines the steps involved in preparing the rat, connecting a multichannel EEG mini-cap to the rat's scalp, and recording the EEG to identify seizure-related events characteristic of the epilepsy model.

The macro-environment refers to the external factors and conditions outside an organization, industry, or business and can significantly impact its operations, strategies, and performance. These factors are typically beyond the organization's control but require careful consideration. Key Elements of the Macro-Environment include: • Demographic Factors: encompass understanding the population's characteristics, size, and trends, including age, gender, ethnicity, and location. • Economic...
