Gland Classification

Gland classification is a system for organizing secretory organs according to their structure, location, and route of secretion, making it essential for understanding how tissues regulate body functions. The main distinction separates exocrine glands, which deliver products through ducts to epithelial surfaces or cavities, from endocrine glands, which release hormones into surrounding tissue fluid and the bloodstream. Histological classification also considers whether glands are unicellular or multicellular and whether secretion occurs by merocrine, apocrine, or holocrine mechanisms. In biology and medicine, these categories support the study of digestion, metabolism, growth, reproduction, and glandular disorders.

Classification of Leukocytes

2025

Leukocytes are classified into two groups based on the presence or absence of cytoplasmic granules. Granular leukocytes, which contain granules, belong to the myeloid lineage and are divided into three subtypes: neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils. These cells are roughly spherical and characterized by the granules in their cytoplasm. Neutrophils are the most abundant type of granular leukocytes, comprising 50-70% of all leukocytes. They feature small, evenly distributed granules and a...
