Hcv Rna Quantification

HCV RNA quantification is a molecular test that measures the amount of hepatitis C virus genetic material in a biological sample, providing a direct indicator of active viral replication. The method typically uses reverse transcription followed by real-time quantitative PCR, in which viral RNA is converted to complementary DNA, amplified with sequence-specific primers, and detected through fluorescence; calibration standards allow results to be reported as viral load. In biology and clinical research, HCV RNA quantification supports infection confirmation, baseline assessment, treatment monitoring, and evaluation of virologic response. Reliable measurements also help compare antiviral strategies and characterize changes in viral replication over time.

Two Methods of Heterokaryon Formation to Discover HCV Restriction Factors

2012

We describe two methods for conditional trans-complementation of hepatitis C virus (HCV) assembly and the completion of the full viral life cycle, which rely on heterokaryon formation. These techniques are suitable to screen for cell lines that express dominant restriction factors, which preclude production of infectious HCV progeny.
