Hepatic Remnant Uptake

Hepatic remnant uptake is the accumulation of circulating substances by liver tissue that remains after part of the liver has been removed, providing an indicator of residual hepatic function. Blood delivers tracers, nutrients, drugs, or other compounds to the remnant, where hepatocytes and associated liver cells capture, transport, metabolize, or excrete them through membrane transporters and related cellular pathways. Measuring uptake helps characterize how the remnant adapts after resection, including changes in perfusion and functional capacity. In biology and translational research, these assessments support studies of liver regeneration, surgical planning, drug disposition, and the recovery of hepatic function.

Laparoscopic Radical Gastrectomy for Remnant Gastric Cancer

2025

Laparoscopic radical gastrectomy for remnant gastric cancer has been increasingly adopted as a minimally invasive surgical approach in recent years. This article proposes a detailed operating procedure, aiming to provide practical technical guidance for surgeons and promote the broader adoption of laparoscopic surgery in managing remnant gastric cancer.

Immunofluorescence to Monitor the Cellular Uptake of Human Lactoferrin and its Associated Antiviral Activity Against the Hepatitis C Virus

The human lactoferrin (hLF) is a component of the immune system. In this study, immunofluorescence assays are used to demonstrate both the hepatocellular uptake of hLF and a qualitative reduction in the hepatitis C virus replication upon treatment with hLF.

Radiolabeled Amino Acid Uptake Assay to Quantify Cellular Uptake of Amino Acids

2025

This video demonstrates an in vitro technique for estimating amino acid uptake by bone marrow-derived stromal cells. Na+-dependent amino acid transporters mediate the uptake of radiolabeled amino acids inside the cells, and the cellular uptake is estimated by measuring the radioactivity.

An optical system was developed to visualize hepatic microcirculation with FITC-labeled erythrocytes and to measure the partial pressure of oxygen in the microvessels with laser-assisted phosphorimetry. This method can be used to investigate physiological and pathological mechanisms by analyzing microvascular structure, diameter, blood flow velocity, and oxygen tension.
