Humoral Stimuli

Humoral stimuli are changes in the chemical composition of body fluids that trigger physiological responses, especially hormone secretion, to maintain homeostasis. Endocrine cells detect circulating levels of substances such as glucose, calcium, or osmolarity and release hormones when these conditions shift; the resulting effects often restore the variable through negative feedback. For example, changes in blood glucose influence pancreatic hormone release, while altered calcium levels regulate parathyroid hormone secretion. Understanding humoral stimuli helps explain endocrine control, fluid and electrolyte balance, metabolism, and the physiological disruptions associated with disorders of hormonal regulation.

Humoral Immune Responses

2019

Overview The humoral immune response, also known as the antibody-mediated immune response, targets pathogens circulating in “humors,” or extracellular fluids, such as blood and lymph. Antibodies target invading pathogens for destruction via multiple defense mechanisms, including neutralization, opsonization, and activation of the complement system. Patients that are impaired in the production of antibodies suffer from severe and frequent infections by common pathogens and unusual pathogens. B...

The distractor-response binding paradigm is described. It can be used to shed light on the influence irrelevant stimuli, competing with targets for a response, can have on human action. Both response retrieval effects and distractor inhibition effects can be analyzed within the paradigm.

2021

The aqueous humor is a high-yield liquid biopsy for retinoblastoma, intraocular cancer that cannot be biopsied in vivo due to the risk of extraocular spread. Herein, a method for safely extracting aqueous humor via clear corneal paracentesis and steps for genomic analysis to identify prognostic biomarkers are presented.

Humor or Rationality? The Neural Mechanisms of How Agent Type and Language Style Influence Satisfaction with Ride-Hailing Service Failure Recovery
