Intussusception

Intussusception is a biological and medical condition in which one segment of the intestine slides into an adjacent segment, making it important for understanding gastrointestinal structure, function, and disease. This telescoping process can obstruct the movement of intestinal contents and compress blood vessels in the affected tissue, potentially reducing circulation and causing inflammation or tissue injury. Studying intussusception helps researchers investigate intestinal motility, mechanical obstruction, and vascular compromise, while supporting clinical recognition and treatment of this potentially serious disorder. It also provides a model for examining how changes in tissue movement and anatomy can disrupt organ function.
