Larval Development Synchronization

Larval development synchronization is a biological method for generating a population of larvae at approximately the same developmental stage, enabling meaningful comparisons across experiments. Researchers typically achieve this by collecting embryos or newly hatched larvae within a defined time window and maintaining them under standardized conditions, such as controlled temperature, nutrition, and density, so developmental timing remains aligned. Synchronized cohorts support accurate analysis of growth, gene expression, morphology, behavior, and responses to environmental or pharmacological treatments. By reducing variation caused by differences in developmental age, the method improves experimental reproducibility and helps clarify how genetic and environmental factors regulate development.

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Three-phase wound-rotor synchronous generators are the main source of electrical power worldwide. They require a prime mover and an exciter in order to generate power. The prime mover can be a turbine spun by fluid (gas or liquid), thus the sources of the fluid can be water running off a dam through a long nozzle, steam from water evaporated using burned coal, etc. Most power plants including coal,...

(2020).This video demonstrates the microgavage procedure, where an anesthetized zebrafish larva is immobilized in agarose and orally injected with a pathogenic bacterium using a tracer-guided needle. The non-invasive delivery mimics natural infection, enabling analysis of bacterial replication, toxin release, and intestinal epithelial damage.

The easiness of maintaining and propagating the nematode C. elegans make it a nice model organism to work with. The possibility of synchronizing worms allows the work with a significant amount of subjects at the same developmental stage, what facilitates the study of one particular process in many animals.

Source: Ali Bazzi, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. Three-phase wound-rotor synchronous motors are less popular than permanent magnet rotor synchronous motors due to the brushes required for the rotor field. Synchronous generators are much more common and available in most existing power plants, as they have excellent frequency and voltage regulation. Synchronous motors have the advantage of almost 0% speed regulation due to the fact that the rotor...
