Lumbar Region

The lumbar region is the lower portion of the vertebral column, located between the thoracic spine and sacrum, and it supports much of the body’s weight. It consists of five lumbar vertebrae, intervertebral discs, joints, ligaments, nerves, and surrounding muscles that work together to stabilize the trunk while permitting flexion, extension, and limited rotation. Its vertebrae transfer loads from the upper body to the pelvis, while discs and soft tissues help distribute mechanical stress and absorb shock. Studying the lumbar region informs biology, biomechanics, medical imaging, rehabilitation, and research on low back pain, spinal injury, and age-related degeneration.

Intrathecal Placement of Lumbar Drain: A Technique to Withdraw Cerebrospinal Fluid from the Lumbar Spine in Porcine Model

2025

This video describes the technique of intrathecal placement of a lumbar drain in a porcine ischemic model, which helps in draining the cerebrospinal fluid to a drainage system. The cerebrospinal fluid pressure is monitored by the drainage system, and fluid is drained to maintain a constant cerebrospinal fluid pressure.

IR Frequency Region: Fingerprint Region

2024

IR spectra are divided into two main regions: the diagnostic region and the fingerprint region. The diagnostic region of the spectrum lies above 1500 cm−1. The absorptions resulting from single-bond vibrations of the N–H, C–H, and O–H stretch at higher wavenumbers and appear on the left side of the spectrum. The stretching absorptions of the C≡C and C≡N occur between 2100–2300 cm−1. In contrast, those arising from stretching absorptions of the C=O, C=N, and C=C occur between 1600–1850 cm−1. The...

Full-Endoscopic Isolation Zone Technique for the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation

Source: Wang, L., et.al. Full-Endoscopic Isolation Zone Technique for the Treatment of Lumbar Disc Herniation. J. Vis. Exp.(2023)This video demonstrates a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure to treat lumbar disc herniation by removing the protruded nucleus pulposus and ruptured annulus fibrosus. The technique decompresses the affected nerve root, alleviates pain, and restores nerve function through targeted tissue resection and radiofrequency modulation.
