Lymnaea Stagnalis

Lymnaea stagnalis is a freshwater pond snail widely used as a model organism in biology because its relatively simple, identifiable nervous system supports studies of behavior and neural function. Its neurons regulate processes such as respiration, feeding, locomotion, and responses to environmental conditions, allowing researchers to connect cellular activity with observable behavior. In particular, Lymnaea stagnalis provides a tractable system for investigating learning and memory, including how experience modifies neural circuits and behavioral responses. Research with this species contributes to comparative neurobiology and helps clarify general principles of nervous-system organization, plasticity, and animal behavior.
