Sauton's Media

Sauton's medium is a chemically defined culture medium used primarily to grow Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other mycobacteria under controlled laboratory conditions. Its formulation supplies glycerol as a carbon and energy source, asparagine as an organic nitrogen source, and mineral salts that support cellular metabolism and maintain suitable ionic conditions for growth. Because it lacks complex animal-derived ingredients, Sauton's medium helps researchers study mycobacterial physiology with greater control over nutritional variables. It is also used to propagate mycobacterial cultures, examine colony development, and prepare organisms for investigations of infection biology, metabolism, and antimicrobial responses.
