Sucrose Solution Preference

Sucrose solution preference is a behavioral measure of an organism’s relative attraction to sucrose-containing fluid compared with water or another solution, making it useful for studying feeding and taste-related behavior. In a preference assay, subjects receive simultaneous or sequential access to solutions with defined sucrose concentrations, and preference is estimated from relative consumption while sensory detection and reward signaling influence choice. Biology researchers use this measure to assess sweet taste, motivation to consume, and changes in ingestive behavior associated with genotype, physiological state, or experimental treatment.

Liquid Phase Reactor: Sucrose Inversion

Source: Kerry M. Dooley and Michael G. Benton, Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Both batch and continuous flow reactors are used in catalytic reactions. Packed beds, which use solid catalysts and a continuous flow, are the most common configuration. In the absence of an extensive recycle stream, such packed bed reactors are typically modeled as "plug flow". The other most common continuous reactor is a stirred tank, which is assumed to be perfectly...

Presented here is a protocol to study depression-like and anhedonic behavior in rats. It combines two well-established behavioral methods, the sucrose preference and novelty-induced hypophagia tests, with an automated food and liquid intake monitoring system, to indirectly investigate rodent behavior using surrogate parameters.

(2017)This video demonstrates the purification of bacteriophages from a suspension containing host bacterial debris using a sucrose density gradient. It shows how the density gradient separates phages by buoyant density, enabling recovery of a visible band for resuspension and further analysis.
