Sustained Lymphedema Model

The Sustained Lymphedema Model is an experimental biology system that reproduces persistent tissue swelling caused by impaired lymphatic fluid drainage, enabling investigation of a chronic condition that affects tissue structure and function. Continued lymphatic obstruction or injury allows protein-rich fluid to accumulate, triggering inflammation, immune-cell recruitment, and progressive fibrosis that can further disrupt fluid transport. Researchers use this model to study lymphedema pathogenesis, interactions between lymphatic vessels and surrounding tissues, and responses to therapeutic interventions. It also supports evaluation of strategies aimed at restoring lymphatic function and limiting long-term tissue remodeling.
