Ultraclear Centrifuge Tube

An Ultraclear centrifuge tube is a transparent, thin-walled vessel designed for high-speed centrifugation, enabling researchers to separate and observe biological samples during laboratory workflows. In an ultracentrifuge, centrifugal force drives particles through a liquid medium or density gradient according to their size, shape, and buoyant density, while the clear tube supports visualization of separated bands. In biology, these tubes are used for density-gradient separations involving organelles, nucleic acids, proteins, and other macromolecular assemblies. Their specialized design helps preserve sample organization during demanding spins and supports analytical and preparative research in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

Working with Centrifuges

Source: Robert M. Rioux & Suprita Jharimune, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA Earth's gravitational force is capable of separating heterogeneous mixtures. However, many systems avert this type of separation owing to the length of time usually required in such cases. Centrifugation is one of the most powerful tools for the separation of heterogeneous mixtures1. It involves the application of centripetal force for sedimentation of the heavier phase, leading to separation of...

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is used in the treatment of equine musculoskeletal disorders. Different techniques yield PRP with varying platelet and leukocyte concentrations. This article describes a method for obtaining PRP from horse blood.

An Introduction to the Centrifuge

The centrifuge is an instrument used in nearly every research lab across the globe. Centrifugation is the process by which a centrifuge is used to separate components of a complex mixture. By spinning laboratory samples at very high speeds, the components of a given mixture are subjected to centrifugal force, which causes more dense particles to migrate away from the axis of rotation and lighter ones to move toward it. These particles can sediment at the bottom of the tube into what’s...

Centrifugation is a separation technique based on differences in density or size. It is commonly used to separate solids from aqueous interferents. During centrifugation, the sample is placed in centrifugation tubes and spun at high angular velocity, which allows centrifugal force to act differentially on the different densities or masses of the components. After spinning, the supernatant liquid is decanted. Depending on the specific application, either the pellet or the supernatant is retained...

Source: Rachel Liu, BAO, MBBCh, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Tube thoracostomy (chest tube placement) is a procedure during which a hollow tube is inserted into the thoracic cavity for drainage of fluid or air. Emergency chest tube insertion is performed for definitive treatment of tension pneumothorax, traumatic hemothorax, large-volume pleural effusions, and empyemas. Irrespective of the cause of air and fluid accumulation in the pleural space, the...
