Uterine Cycle

The uterine cycle is the recurring series of changes in the uterus that prepares the endometrium for possible implantation and supports reproductive function. Coordinated fluctuations in ovarian hormones, especially estrogen and progesterone, drive endometrial proliferation, glandular maturation, and vascular remodeling; when hormone levels decline without fertilization, the functional layer is shed during menstruation. The cycle is commonly described through menstrual, proliferative, and secretory phases, which correspond to changing ovarian activity. Understanding the uterine cycle is essential for studying human reproduction, menstrual health, fertility, contraception, and disorders such as endometriosis and abnormal uterine bleeding.

Uterine Tubes

2024

The uterine or fallopian tubes function as the conduit through which oocytes travel from the ovaries to the uterus. Each fallopian tube measures approximately 10 to 13 cm long and is anatomically divided into the infundibulum, ampulla, isthmus, and interstitial part (or intramural segment). The infundibulum is characterized by its funnel shape and features extensions called fimbriae which reach towards the peritoneal cavity. These fimbriae play a critical role during ovulation as they extend...

What are Biogeochemical Cycles?

2019

The most common elements in organic molecules, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus, are only available in the ecosystem in limited amounts. Therefore, these nutrients must be recycled through both biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem, in processes generally called biogeochemical cycles. Biogeochemical Cycles and Decomposition The matter that makes up living organisms, like water, carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and phosphorous, exist in limited quantities within the...

The Water Cycle

2019

The Earth’s hydrosphere includes all of the areas where the storage and movement of water occurs. Since water is the basis of all living processes, the cycling of water is extremely important to ecosystem dynamics. The water cycle begins as the sun warms surface water on the land and in oceans, causing it to evaporate and enter the atmosphere as vapor. The water vapor condenses into clouds and eventually falls as precipitation in the form of rain, snow or hail. After falling back to the...

Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot-Tying for Uterine Vessel Occlusion during Hysterectomy with Cervical Cerclage in Large Uteri

2025

Here, we introduce a novel approach-Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot-Tying for Uterine Vessel Occlusion during Hysterectomy with Cervical Cerclage in Large Uteri. A laparoscopic extracorporeal knot-pusher is used to perform cervical cerclage, achieving complete occlusion of uterine arteries. Thereafter, the corpus uteri are excised to enhance visibility and facilitate the operative field.
