Breast Conserving Surgery

Breast-conserving surgery (BCS), also called lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, is a cancer treatment that removes a breast tumor while preserving most of the breast, making it an important approach in breast cancer research and care. During the procedure, surgeons excise the visible or localized lesion with a surrounding margin of tissue, and pathology examines the specimen to assess tumor characteristics and margin status. BCS is commonly combined with radiation therapy to treat residual microscopic disease and reduce local recurrence risk. Research evaluates imaging, surgical planning, molecular features, and patient outcomes to improve selection, precision, cosmetic results, and long-term cancer control.

Single-Port Robotic-assisted Transaxillary Breast-conserving Surgery: A Prospective, Single-arm, Non-randomized Phase IIa Clinical Trial

2025

This prospective study evaluated the implementation of a novel, single-port, robotic platform in oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery for malignant lesions. The primary endpoint focused on technical success, defined as the achievement of tumor-free resection margins confirmed by intraoperative frozen-section histopathology, with secondary assessment of aesthetic outcomes and life quality score of patients.

Single-port Non-liposuction Endoscopic Axillary Lymph Node Dissection in Breast Cancer Surgery

2026

This study describes a standardized surgical procedure for single-port endoscopic axillary lymph node dissection without liposuction in breast cancer. Indicated for patients with biopsy-confirmed nodal metastasis or positive sentinel lymph nodes, the technique emphasizes preservation of critical structures, particularly the intercostobrachial nerve, to reduce postoperative morbidity and optimize functional recovery.

A Novel Contralateral Axillo-Bilateral-Breast Approach for Endoscopic Thyroid Surgery

Conservation of Momentum

Source: Nicholas Timmons, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA The goal of this experiment is to test the concept of the conservation of momentum. By setting up a surface with very little friction, collisions between moving objects can be studied, including their initial and final momenta. The conservation of momentum is one of the most important laws in physics. When something is conserved in physics, the...

Conservation of Small Populations

2019

Small population sizes put a species at extreme risk of extinction due to a lack of variation, and a consequent decrease in adaptability. This weakens the chances of survival under pressures such as climate change, competition from other species, or new diseases. Large populations are more likely to survive pressures such as these, as such populations are more likely to harbor individuals that have genetic variants that are adaptive under new stresses. Small populations are much less likely to...
