Cho Cell Culture

CHO cell culture is the laboratory cultivation of Chinese hamster ovary cells, a mammalian cell line widely used for studying cell biology and producing complex biological molecules. Researchers maintain CHO cells in sterile nutrient media under controlled temperature, carbon dioxide, osmolarity, and pH, using adherent or suspension growth and passaging to expand healthy populations. In cancer research, CHO cultures support genetic engineering, recombinant antibody and protein production, and assays that assess protein function, cellular toxicity, or drug-related effects. Because CHO cells efficiently perform mammalian protein processing and can be adapted to large-scale culture, they also contribute to developing and manufacturing biologics relevant to cancer diagnosis and treatment.

meta-Directing Deactivators: –NO2, –CN, –CHO, –CO2R, –COR, –CO2H

All meta-directing substituents are deactivating groups. These substituents withdraw electrons from the aromatic ring, making the ring less reactive toward electrophilic substitution. For example, the nitration of nitrobenzene is 100,000 times slower than that of benzene because of the deactivating effect of the nitro group. The first step in an electrophilic aromatic substitution is the addition of an electrophile to form a resonance-stabilized carbocation. The energy diagrams for the...
