Hemostatic Gauze

Hemostatic gauze is a medical dressing designed to control bleeding by combining physical wound coverage with materials that promote clot formation. When applied with pressure, its fibers concentrate blood components at the injury site, while hemostatic agents can support platelet aggregation and the coagulation process, accelerating formation of a stable clot. In cancer research, hemostatic gauze is relevant to tumor-resection procedures, biopsy models, and studies of surgical bleeding, where rapid control of hemorrhage can improve procedural safety and experimental consistency. Its use also supports evaluation of biomaterials and bleeding-management strategies for oncology surgery.

We describe the simplest protocol to prepare biodegradable medical glue that has an effective hemostatic ability. TAPE is a water-immiscible supramolecular aggregate prepared by mixing of tannic acid, a ubiquitous compound found in plants, and poly(ethylene) glycol, yielding a 2.5 times greater water-resistant adhesion compared with commercial fibrin glue.
