Lime Juice Analysis

Lime juice analysis is the chemical characterization of lime juice, including its acidity and concentration of organic acids, to relate composition to quality and behavior. In a typical acid-base titration, sodium hydroxide reacts with citric acid in a measured juice sample, while an indicator or pH measurement identifies the endpoint and supports calculation of titratable acidity. Comparing titration results with pH, dilution, or labeled values helps students apply stoichiometry, molarity, and neutralization principles to a familiar food. The analysis also demonstrates how quantitative chemistry supports quality control, product comparison, and evaluation of changes caused by storage or processing.

Pancreatic juice is a clear fluid produced by the pancreas, containing water, salts, sodium bicarbonate, and enzymes vital for digestion in the small intestine. It helps break down large molecules, facilitating nutrient absorption. When acidic chyme from the stomach enters the duodenum, it triggers the release of secretin, a hormone that prompts pancreatic juice secretion. After a fatty meal, cholecystokinin, another hormone, stimulates gallbladder contraction and enhances enzyme-rich...

Fizzy extraction is a new laboratory technique for analysis of volatile and semivolatile compounds. A carrier gas is dissolved in the liquid sample by applying overpressure and stirring the sample. The sample chamber is then decompressed. The analyte species are liberated to the gas phase due to effervescence.

The feeding circuit in Drosophila melanogaster larvae serves a simple yet powerful model that allows changes in feeding rate to be correlated with alterations in the stomatogastric neural circuitry. This circuit is composed of central serotonergic neurons that send projections to the mouth hooks as well as the foregut.

A rapid method for volatile compound analysis in fruit is described. The volatile compounds present in the headspace of a homogenate of the sample are rapidly separated and detected with ultra-fast gas chromatography (GC) coupled with a surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor. A procedure for data handling and analysis is also discussed.
