Lithium Calcium Measurement

Lithium calcium measurement is the analytical determination of lithium and calcium concentrations in a sample, an important task because these ions influence chemical reactivity, solution composition, and biological function. In common flame emission or atomic absorption methods, the sample is atomized, and each element produces or absorbs characteristic wavelengths; instrument signals are compared with calibration standards to calculate concentration. Accurate lithium calcium measurement supports quality control, environmental and clinical analysis, electrolyte studies, and research on ion transport and chemical equilibria.

We present a method to isolate rapid (microsecond) calcium events from slower fluxes in living cells using laser scanning confocal microscopy. The method measures fluorescence intensity fluctuations of calcium indicators by recording line scans of several hundred pixels in a cell. Histogram analysis allows us to isolate the time scales of different calcium fluxes.

Calcium Influx Assay to Measure Mitochondrial Calcium Uptake in Cultured Cells
