Apnea Monitor Usage

Apnea monitor usage refers to the clinical application of monitoring devices that detect pauses in breathing and alert caregivers to possible respiratory compromise. These systems use sensors to track respiratory movement, airflow, and often heart rate, triggering an alarm when breathing stops or falls below a preset threshold for a defined period. In clinical care, apnea monitors support observation of infants and patients at risk for recurrent apnea, helping caregivers respond promptly while documenting episodes for medical evaluation. Proper sensor placement, alarm settings, and interpretation of readings are essential because movement, loose connections, and other artifacts can produce false alarms.

Using simultaneous video-EEG-ECG-oximetry-capnography, we developed a methodology to evaluate the susceptibility of rabbit models to develop provoked arrhythmias and seizures. This novel recording system establishes a platform to test the efficacy and safety of therapeutics and can capture the complex cascade of multi-system events that culminate in sudden death.

Sleep Apnea

2024

Sleep apnea is a condition where breathing stops intermittently during sleep, often leading to significant health issues. Each episode can last from 10 to 20 seconds or more and is frequently accompanied by a brief arousal from sleep. This disturbance, largely unnoticed by the individual, can lead to severe daytime fatigue. Commonly, individuals seek help after being informed by their partners about loud snoring and noticeable breathing pauses during sleep. The condition is more prevalent among...
