Plant Growth Measurement

Plant growth measurement is the quantitative assessment of changes in plant size, structure, or biomass over time, providing evidence of growth dynamics and developmental progression. Researchers track variables such as shoot height, leaf area, root length, fresh or dry mass, and cell expansion under defined environmental conditions, often using repeated observations or image-based analysis to calculate growth rates. Comparing these measurements across genotypes, tissues, developmental stages, or treatments reveals how genetic programs and external factors regulate organ formation and overall plant development. The approach supports studies of physiology, stress responses, mutant phenotypes, and developmental mechanisms while enabling reproducible evaluation of experimental outcomes.

Take an inoculum mixture of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria or PSB and purple non-sulfur bacteria or PNSB.Spray the mixture onto the soil mixed with fertilizer and cow dung manure.Sow the seed and cover it with the soil.Allow the plant to grow. The bacteria localize near the root in a zone called the rhizosphere.PSB converts insoluble soil phosphates into soluble forms.Meanwhile, PNSB fixes nitrogen by converting atmospheric nitrogen gas into ammonia. The plant absorbs the soluble phosphates and...

Meristems and Plant Growth

2026

Plants grow throughout their lives; this is called indeterminate growth, and it distinguishes plants from most animals. Although certain parts of plants stop growing (e.g., leaves and flowers), others grow continuously—like roots and stems. Indeterminate growth in plants is enabled by meristems, tissues containing undifferentiated cells—called meristematic cells. When meristematic cells divide, some daughter cells remain in the meristem, ensuring a steady supply of undifferentiated cells.
