Conveyor Belt Tracking

Conveyor belt tracking is the engineering practice of keeping a conveyor belt centered and aligned as it moves over pulleys, idlers, and support structures. Tracking depends on balanced belt tension, accurate pulley alignment, proper loading, and controlled correction through components such as training idlers, crowned pulleys, or adjustable rollers that guide the belt toward its intended path. Effective tracking reduces edge damage, material spillage, belt wear, and unplanned downtime. It is essential in material-handling systems used in mining, manufacturing, logistics, and processing, where stable belt movement improves safety, energy efficiency, equipment life, and reliable transport performance.

Fabrication and Operation of a Nano-Optical Conveyor Belt

2015

The scalability and resolution of conventional optical manipulation techniques are limited by diffraction. We circumvent the diffraction limit and describe a method of optically transporting nanoparticles across a chip using a gold surface patterned with a path of closely spaced C-shaped plasmonic resonators.

This protocol describes how to install an infrared camera into a conveyor belt furnace, conduct a customer correction of a factory calibrated IR camera, and evaluate the spatial surface temperature distribution of an object of interest. The example objects are industrial silicon solar cells.

Using a Split-belt Treadmill to Evaluate Generalization of Human Locomotor Adaptation

We describe a protocol for investigating human locomotor adaptation using the split-belt treadmill, which has two belts that can drive each leg at a different speed. We specifically focus on a paradigm designed to test the generalization of adapted locomotor patterns to different walking contexts (e.g., gait speeds, walking environments).

Frictional Forces on Flat Belts

2023

Flat belts are commonly used in various industrial applications for transmitting power from one pulley to another. When a flat belt is wrapped around a set of pulleys, it experiences different tensions at the driving pulley ends due to the friction between the belt and pulley surface. When the pulley moves in a counterclockwise direction, the tension T2 on the opposite side of the pulley where the belt is moving away from is higher than the tension T1 on the side where the belt is moving...

We propose a method to extend the corresponding frequency by using a pre-emphasis technique. This method compensates for the gain reduction of a galvanometer mirror in sine-wave path tracking using proportional-integral-differential control.
