Electronic Circuit Analysis

Electronic Circuit Analysis is the systematic study of voltages, currents, power, and signal behavior in interconnected electrical components, providing a foundation for designing and evaluating electronic systems. Engineers model circuits with component relationships such as Ohm’s law and apply Kirchhoff’s current and voltage laws through methods including nodal and mesh analysis to predict circuit response under specified conditions. These techniques support the analysis of analog and digital circuits, including amplifiers, filters, power supplies, and sensor interfaces, while helping identify performance limits, faults, and opportunities for optimization. Circuit analysis also prepares engineers to use simulation and measurement to validate designs before implementation.

Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN Capacitors (C), inductors (L), and resistors (R) are each an important circuit element with distinct behaviors. A resistor dissipates energy and obeys Ohm's law, with its voltage proportional to its current. A capacitor stores electrical energy, with its current proportional to the rate of change of its voltage, while an inductor stores magnetic energy, with its voltage...

2012

A rapid method for volatile compound analysis in fruit is described. The volatile compounds present in the headspace of a homogenate of the sample are rapidly separated and detected with ultra-fast gas chromatography (GC) coupled with a surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor. A procedure for data handling and analysis is also discussed.

Node Analysis for AC Circuits

Consider an angioplasty system featuring a catheter equipped with a turbine, a critical tool for removing plaque deposits from coronary arteries. This intricate medical device operates using a circuit model reminiscent of a dual-node RLC circuit powered by a current-controlled voltage source. To unravel the complexities of this system, nodal analysis is employed, a powerful technique founded on Kirchhoff's current law (KCL), which remains valid for phasors. AC circuits can effectively be...
