Fixed Support

Fixed support is a structural boundary condition that prevents a connected member from translating or rotating, making it essential for analyzing how engineering structures carry loads. By restraining horizontal and vertical movement as well as rotation, it develops reaction forces and a resisting moment at the connection; these reactions balance applied loads and influence internal shear forces, axial forces, and bending moments. Engineers use fixed supports in beams, columns, frames, and foundations to model rigid connections and evaluate structural stability, stiffness, and deformation. Understanding this condition also supports the analysis of statically indeterminate structures and the development of reliable designs.

Self-help support groups are voluntary, community-based organizations that provide a platform for individuals with shared concerns to exchange support, insights, and practical strategies for coping with life challenges. Typically led by group members or paraprofessionals, these groups form a cornerstone of mental health care, especially in reaching populations that are underserved by traditional healthcare systems. Accessibility and Cost-Effectiveness One of the primary strengths of self-help...

Fixing Double-strand Breaks

2020

The double-stranded structure of DNA has two major advantages. First, it serves as a safe repository of genetic information where one strand serves as the back-up in case the other strand is damaged. Second, the double-helical structure can be wrapped around proteins called histones to form nucleosomes, which can then be tightly wound to form chromosomes. This way, DNA chains up to 2 inches long can be contained within microscopic structures in a cell. A double-stranded break not only damages...

Fixed Assets

2024

A fixed asset, a long-term resource owned by a company, is a strategic tool used to generate income. These assets, critical components of a company's balance sheet, represent significant investments and play a pivotal role in the company's financial health. These assets are not intended for resale during regular business operations but are used in production, supply chain, or administrative functions. For example, a cheese manufacturer might purchase packing machinery to use over five years.
