Flow Signal Analysis

Flow Signal Analysis is the study of measurements that describe how fluid motion changes over time, helping engineers interpret system behavior and detect deviations from expected performance. Sensors convert variables such as flow rate, pressure, or velocity into signals that can be conditioned, sampled, and examined in the time or frequency domain. Engineers use filtering, trend analysis, and spectral or correlation methods to separate meaningful flow dynamics from noise and identify phenomena such as oscillations, transients, instability, or blockage. The results support monitoring, fault diagnosis, control-system design, and optimization in pipelines, pumps, turbines, and other fluid-handling systems.

Signal-flow graphs offer a streamlined and intuitive approach to representing control systems, providing an alternative to traditional block diagrams. These graphs use branches to symbolize systems and nodes to represent signals, effectively illustrating the relationships and interactions within the system. In a signal-flow graph, branches denote the system's transfer functions, while nodes represent the signals. The direction of signal flow is indicated by arrows, with the corresponding...

Source: Peiman Shahbeigi-Roodposhti and Sina Shahbazmohamadi, Biomedical Engineering Department, University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut An electrocardiograph is a graph recorded by electric potential changes occurring between electrodes placed on a patient's torso to demonstrate cardiac activity. An ECG signal tracks heart rhythm and many cardiac diseases, such as poor blood flow to the heart and structural abnormalities. The action potential created by contractions of the heart wall...

Many different methods exist for the measurement of extracellular vesicles (EVs) using flow cytometry (FCM). Several aspects should be considered when determining the most appropriate method to use. Two protocols for measuring EVs are presented, using either individual detection or a bead-based approach.

Free cash flow (FCF) is a critical indicator of a company’s financial flexibility and long-term viability. It represents the cash remaining after a firm covers its essential capital expenditures—funds used to maintain or expand physical assets like equipment, buildings, or technology.Calculating Free Cash FlowFree cash flow is calculated by taking the cash generated from operating activities and subtracting the company’s capital expenditures. This clearly measures how much cash remains after...
