Internal Vibrator

An internal vibrator is a portable engineering tool that consolidates freshly placed concrete by transmitting mechanical vibration from an immersed vibrating head. Its motor drives an eccentric mass, producing rapid oscillations that temporarily reduce friction between cement paste and aggregate, allowing trapped air to rise and particles to settle into a denser arrangement. Workers insert the vibrating head at regular intervals and withdraw it gradually to improve contact with reinforcement, molds, and embedded components. Proper use helps produce stronger, more uniform concrete with fewer voids and surface defects, while excessive vibration can cause segregation. Internal vibrators are therefore important in structural construction, precast manufacturing, and concrete quality control.

Vibrating Concrete

Mechanical vibrators are instrumental in compacting newly poured concrete within formwork and around reinforcements. This process is essential to eliminate trapped air pockets and establish a dense concrete mass. One widely used method is vibrating by internal vibrators, often referred to as a poker vibrator or immersion vibrator. It is rapidly inserted through the full depth of the freshly laid concrete and slightly extends into the layer below it (which remains in a plastic state). Consistent...

Source: Laboratory of Dr. B. Jill Venton - University of Virginia The goal of many chemical analyses is a quantitative analysis, where the amount of a substance in a sample is determined. In order to accurately calculate the concentration of an unknown from a sample, careful sample preparation is key. Every time a sample is handled or transferred, some of the sample can be lost. There are strategies however, for minimizing sample loss. There are also strategies for coping with sample loss and...

Internal Energy

2020

The total of all possible kinds of energy present in a substance is called the internal energy (U), sometimes symbolized as E. Suppose a system with initial internal energy, Uinitial, undergoes a change in energy (transfer of work or heat), and the final internal energy of the system is Ufinal. Change in internal energy equals the difference between Ufinal and Uinitial. Although the values for Ufinal and Uinitial cannot be determined for a system, the first law of thermodynamics only...
