Nano Biological Interfaces

Nano biological interfaces are engineered boundaries where nanoscale materials or structures interact with cells, biomolecules, or biological tissues. Their behavior arises from surface chemistry, nanoscale topography, charge, and molecular recognition, which together control how proteins adsorb and how cells attach, communicate, or respond. In engineering, these interfaces support biosensors, drug-delivery systems, tissue scaffolds, and implantable devices by linking biological specificity with material performance. Understanding interfacial interactions helps researchers improve biocompatibility, signal detection, therapeutic targeting, and device integration while reducing unwanted immune or inflammatory responses.

Protein-protein Interfaces

Many proteins form complexes to carry out their functions, making protein-protein interactions (PPIs) essential for an organism's survival. Most PPIs are stabilized by numerous weak noncovalent chemical forces. The physical shape of the interfaces determines the way two proteins interact. Many globular proteins have closely-matching shapes on their surfaces, which form a large number of weak bonds. Additionally, many PPIs occur between two helices or between a surface cleft and a polypeptide...

The scalability and resolution of conventional optical manipulation techniques are limited by diffraction. We circumvent the diffraction limit and describe a method of optically transporting nanoparticles across a chip using a gold surface patterned with a path of closely spaced C-shaped plasmonic resonators.

We describe the experimental method to deposit nanostructured oxide thin films by nanosecond Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) in the presence of a background gas. By using this method Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films, from compact to hierarchically structured as nano-tree forests, can be deposited.
