Paving Drainage Solutions

Paving drainage solutions are engineered systems that manage water on and beneath paved surfaces to prevent ponding, erosion, structural damage, and unsafe conditions. They work by combining surface slopes, channels, inlets, permeable layers, underdrains, and collection networks that guide runoff away from pavement or temporarily store and infiltrate it into the ground. In engineering projects, these solutions support the durability and performance of roads, parking areas, walkways, and other paved infrastructure by reducing water infiltration and freeze-thaw damage. Proper drainage design also helps control stormwater runoff, limit maintenance needs, and improve resilience under intense rainfall and changing site conditions.

Masonry Paving

2024

The construction of masonry paving involves using materials such as bricks, stones, and concrete masonry units. These materials are chosen for their shape, color, strength, and resistance to abrasion and weathering. Masonry units can be installed dry on a thin layer of sand and a gravel base, or they can be embedded in mortar or asphalt on a concrete slab. For areas subjected to heavy vehicular loads, a rigid base layer of reinforced or unreinforced concrete is recommended. In contrast,...

We present a method to collect cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and to create a system which lacks CSF within the embryonic zebrafish brain ventricular system. This allows for further examination of CSF composition and its requirement during embryonic brain development.

Acid Mine Drainage

2026

Mining activities that disturb sulfide-rich rocks, particularly those containing pyrite (FeS₂), initiate a cascade of geochemical and microbiological processes with serious environmental implications. When exposed to air and water, pyrite undergoes oxidation, releasing sulfate, ultimately forming sulfuric acid and mobilizing heavy metals into surrounding water systems. This phenomenon, known as acid mine drainage (AMD), results in low pH waters laden with toxic elements that threaten aquatic...
