Pdms Compression

PDMS compression refers to the controlled application and measurement of compressive force in polydimethylsiloxane, a flexible silicone elastomer widely used in engineering and microfabrication. Under load, its crosslinked polymer network deforms, producing a nonlinear, time-dependent stress–strain response influenced by compression magnitude, strain rate, and material formulation. Characterizing this behavior helps determine stiffness, recoverability, sealing performance, and resistance to permanent deformation. These properties are important when designing microfluidic channels, soft robotic components, flexible sensors, biomedical devices, and elastomeric seals, where compression can regulate fluid flow, maintain contact, or affect long-term device reliability.

Source: Roberto Leon, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA There are two distinct stages in a construction project involving concrete. The first stage involves batching, transporting, and casting fresh concrete. At this stage, the material is viscous, and the workability and finishability are the key performance criteria. The second stage occurs when the hydration process begins shortly after the concrete is placed in the form, and the concrete will...
