Quartz Plate Coating

Quartz plate coating is the application of a thin, functional layer to a quartz substrate to modify its optical, electrical, chemical, or mechanical behavior. The coating process forms an adherent film on the plate surface, with performance determined by the coating material, layer thickness, surface preparation, and deposition conditions. In engineering, coated quartz plates can provide tailored reflectivity, transparency, protection, chemical resistance, or surface functionality while preserving quartz’s dimensional stability and thermal performance. These engineered surfaces support applications in optics, sensors, semiconductor processing, laboratory equipment, and other systems requiring precise control of material interfaces.

Source: Paolone, G., et al. Personalized Needles for Microinjections in the Rodent Brain. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates a rodent brain microneedle injection using a quartz microneedle with holes. The microneedle is attached to a syringe and micropump to control the delivery rate. The needle with the injection solution is inserted into the brain with the delivery speed set at low. Once positioned, the delivery speed is increased. The needle is withdrawn after a brief pause.

Graphene offers potential as a coating material for biomedical implants. In this study we demonstrate a method for coating nitinol alloys with nanometer thick layers of graphene and determine how graphene may influence implant response.

Resorption Pit Assay: An In Vitro Technique to Quantify Calcium Resorption Activity of Mature Osteoclasts using Calcium Phosphate-Coated Culture Plates

2025

In this video, we describe an in vitro osteoclastic resorption assay on calcium phosphate-coated cell culture plates cultured with human peripheral blood mononuclear cell-derived osteoclasts. The osteoclasts form a characteristic actin ring on the calcium phosphate-coated matrix of the cell culture plate and degrade the matrix within the actin ring region to release calcium and phosphate ions, resulting in the formation of distinct resorption pits within the degraded matrix.

Quartz-Crystal Microbalance Biosensor-Based Biopanning to Study Protein-Drug Interactions

2025

This video demonstrates a method to study protein-drug interactions using QCM biosensor-based biopanning of the T7 phage-displayed peptide library. The biopanning of phages displaying a specific peptide on the QCM biosensor allows specific isolation of high-affinity peptides, followed by amino acid sequencing, which helps to identify specific interaction sites on the target protein.
