Ry-rz Ansatz

The Ry-rz Ansatz is a parameterized quantum-circuit design that uses rotations about the Y and Z axes to represent trial quantum states, making it a practical building block for variational quantum computing. In repeated layers, tunable Ry and Rz gates adjust each qubit’s amplitudes and phases, while entangling operations such as controlled gates create correlations between qubits; a classical optimizer updates the angles to minimize a measured cost function. In engineering, this ansatz supports quantum approximate optimization, system modeling, and quantum machine-learning workflows, where circuit expressivity, trainability, gate count, and hardware connectivity influence accuracy and implementation.

Ryan and Deci's Self-Determination Theory

2025

Self-Determination Theory (SDT), formulated by Richard Ryan and Edward Deci, explains that human motivation is driven by three fundamental psychological needs: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. When these needs are met, individuals experience personal growth, intrinsic motivation, and overall well-being. Autonomy is the need to feel in control of one's actions and decisions. For example, a student who chooses their research topic is likely to be more engaged and motivated than one who is...

This article describes methods to derive enriched populations of murine oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) in primary culture, which differentiate to produce mature oligodendrocytes (OLs). In addition, this report describes techniques to produce murine myelinating co-cultures by seeding mouse OPCs onto a neurite bed of mouse dorsal root ganglion neurons (DRGNs).

Construction and Implantation of a Microinfusion System for Sustained Delivery of Neuroactive Agents.

As neuroscience inquiry becomes more sophisticated, investigation of brain structures and circuitry requires improved levels of accuracy and higher resolution. We have developed a method for the preparation and implantation of a chronic infusion system within the brain utilizing a borosilicate microcannula with a tip diameter of 50 microns.

Eye Movement Monitoring of Memory

Eye movement monitoring (or eye tracking) reveals where in space the eyes linger, when and for how long. Here, we demonstrate how eye tracking can be used to investigate the integrity of memory in multiple participant populations, without requiring verbal, or otherwise explicit, reports.

2010

High frequency Doppler ultrasound is a novel technology for assessing regional myocardial function. This work presents first evidence demonstrating applicability of this versatile imaging platform for the repeated measure of myocardial strain, dp/dt, and mitral regurgitation in the ischemia-reperfused (IR) murine heart.
