Twin Domain Boundary

A twin domain boundary is an interface separating two crystal regions, or domains, whose atomic arrangements are related by a specific mirror or symmetry operation. In a coherent twin boundary, atoms near the interface maintain an ordered, low-mismatch structure, while the boundary’s orientation, energy, and degree of coherency determine how it forms and interacts with defects such as dislocations. In engineering materials, twin boundaries can strengthen metals and ceramics by impeding dislocation motion, yet may also influence electrical, thermal, optical, and fracture behavior. Characterizing and controlling these interfaces supports the design of alloys, thin films, nanostructures, and other materials with tailored performance.

Here, we present a protocol for a mosaic labeling technique that permits the visualization of neurons derived from a common progenitor cell in two distinct colors. This facilitates neural lineage analysis with the capability of birth-dating individual neurons and studying gene function in the same neurons of different individuals.

Guide Wire Assisted Catheterization and Colored Dye Injection for Vascular Mapping of Monochorionic Twin Placentas

Vascular mapping of monochorionic (MC) twin placentas after birth provides a means for detailed demonstration of vascular connections between the twins’ circulations. Imbalance of these connections is thought to play a pivotal role in the development of complications of MC twinning including twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

Areas Within Irregular Boundaries

2025

Calculating areas within irregular boundaries, such as along rivers or curved roads, is crucial in various fields, including surveying, engineering, and environmental management. Surveyors often begin by creating a traverse, a connected series of straight lines approximating the area's boundary. The coordinates of each traverse point are essential for calculating the enclosed area. The double meridian distance formula is a widely used technique for this purpose. This method utilizes the...

Conservation of Protein Domains Over Different Proteins

2020

Protein domains are small structurally independent units that are part of a single amino acid chain. Although these domains are often structurally independent, they may rely on synergistic effects to perform their functions as part of a larger protein. Protein domains may be conserved within the same organism, as well as across different organisms. A limited set of protein domains often duplicate and recombine during evolution. These domains can be organized in different combinations to form...

In this work, we describe the use of the atom-probe tomography technique for studying the grain boundaries of the absorber layer in a CIGS solar cell. A novel approach to prepare the atom probe tips containing the desired grain boundary with a known structure is also presented here.
