Zhundong Coal Pyrolysis

Zhundong coal pyrolysis is the thermal conversion of Zhundong coal into solid char, condensable tar, and gaseous products in an oxygen-limited environment. During heating, the coal’s organic structures break down, and its high content of alkali and alkaline-earth minerals can influence volatile release, product composition, and ash behavior. In engineering research, pyrolysis experiments and reactor modeling help determine suitable temperatures, heating rates, residence times, and operating conditions for efficient conversion. The resulting data support process design for coal upgrading, fuel production, chemical recovery, and improved control of fouling and slagging during downstream utilization.

2019

Here, we present a protocol to synthesize nitrogen/oxygen dual-doped mesoporous carbon from biomass by chemical activation in different pyrolysis modes followed by modification. We demonstrate that the microwave pyrolysis benefits the subsequent modification process to simultaneously introduce more nitrogen and oxygen functional groups on the carbon.
